Best Facebook Plugin for WordPress | April 11th, 2013

Ultimate Facebook is the best Facebook Plugin for WordPress that we’ve found. We’re always looking for ways to streamline our marketing efforts. This robust little plugin from WPMU is a one stop, do-it-all utility that makes it easy to integrate just about everything between your WordPress website and Facebook.

Currently we’re using it on this website to autopost entries, such as this one, to our Facebook page. However the capabilities go far beyond:

  • Facebook Connect – If you have multiple users on your WordPress site, you can allow, or force, users to register and login with their Facebook info.
  • User Profiles – Automatically fill in fields in user profiles from Facebook when they register.
  • Autopost – This makes it simple to post new content to user’s walls, fan pages, events, or notes. You can also selectively publish posts if you want more control.
  • Comments – Import comments made on Facebook about a post into your WordPress site. This gives your site an often much needed increase in comments, which helps validate your message.
  • Like and Send Buttons – Add buttons to make sharing your posts easy. Place on posts, pages, custom post types, or with available shortcodes
  • OpenGraph – This feature gives you complete control over the thumbnail image posted to facebook when users like/send or you autopost
  • Facebook Albums – Link your Facebook albums with your website. Display images from a Facebook album – as a widget or using a new icon in page/post editor
  • Facebook Events – Show upcoming Facebook events on your website, either in a sidebar or on a page (using shortcodes).
  • Fan Page Widgets – Like box, facepile, and recommendations – with complete customization options built right in

This plugin is considered a “premium plugin”, which means there is a fee, but at $19 we think its well worth it.

4 E’s of Facebook & other social media | October 17th, 2011

4 E's of FacebookFacebook is here to stay. So is Twitter, LinkedIn and a slew of other social media. There is just no avoiding it.

If you own a company or head up an organization, you probably already know that you should have a presence on one of the big social networks. You may have even established a Facebook business page already. However, if you’re like many business owners, the issue is not whether to post, but what to post.

Generally your adoring public does not want to know what you had for breakfast, what TV shows you are addicted to, or how much yard work you got done over the weekend. Save that for your personal page (or not).

Benefits of a Blog | May 2nd, 2011

A few months back I touched on the value of having a blog, but I think it’s worth taking a more in depth look at the hows and whys.

The goal of any search engine is to provide the best user experience possible. When someone enters a set of keywords, they should receive the highest quality information in return. There are several key factors that influence a website’s ranking, and a blog can integrate many of these factors more easily than a standard website.

Writing Better Blog Posts | February 7th, 2011

As more businesses contemplate implementing a blog or newsletter into their online marketing presence, one of the questions I am frequently asked is how to come up with good content. An ideal blog post should be interesting enough that people feel compelled to forward the link to a friend or colleague. It should also be able to be found by the search engines for the particular topic you are covering.
