Best Times to Post on Facebook | November 14th, 2011

Best Times to Post on FacebookDo you have a business page on Facebook? Do you want to know the best times to post to get the most exposure for your company?

Are you ready for the answer?

I don’t know.

Yup, that’s right. I have no idea what the best time is for you to post on Facebook. Sorry.

I did a little research for this article. One blog I visited claimed that Sunday morning was an optimal time, and that Friday afternoons were terrible. Contrary to that, two other blogs stated Thursday and Friday have 18% more engagement. Another website suggested that Thursday through Sunday were the best days, with 1:00 AM Eastern time, 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM and 9:00 PM to 10:00 PM yielding the highest comments. Yet another site suggested noon on Saturday would get you the most viewers.

Confused?

While you could deduce from this information that perhaps Monday through Wednesday are lacking in Facebook traffic, you would probably still be wondering when to send out that important post.

One way to determine the best time to send out posts is to measure your current viewer traffic. This can be done by examining the number of impressions. As you can see below, each posts will tell you the number of times your post has been seen (impressions).

Facebook Impressions

It will also tell you what day and time the post was sent out. This one was sent out on a Monday at 8:00 am.

Another important measurement it gives you is Feedback. However, many factors other than time and date will influence this, such as the quality of the content, so for the purpose of this article we’re going to ignore it.

Take a look at your Facebook page. Compare the number of impressions to the date and time they were sent. What time yielded the most impressions? What day of the week? Keep in mind that very recent posts will not perform as well as older posts, as they are still receiving impressions.

If I look at a series of posts on my Facebook page, I find that the early morning posts performed much better than the evening posts, and my Monday posts, such as the one illustrated above, did quite well in spite of the suggestion that the beginning of the week is not optimal.

How did your posts perform? Are they consistent in the number of impressions, or do they vary? If you’d like to see more impressions, try mixing up the times that you post and observing the results. When you find a day and time that performs well, try posting at those times consistently.

Even though I may not know the best time for you to post online, that doesn’t mean the answer isn’t there.
